After a brutal divorce, a mother and her son relocate to the Blue Mountains to run a Bed and Breakfast.

The Blue Mountains of Australia get their name from the blue mist which arises from the ethereal oils of the eucalyptus trees, creating the mysterious, surreal atmosphere for an unusual mystery. Trying to put some distance between herself and her ex-husband, Joni Ferguson moves into a desolated mountain-top inn. She restores and reopens the inn but in six month's time her business is in the red and the creditors are closing in. Helpful new friends and potential partners appear, but they may not be what they seem. When one of those friends, the local doctor, is found dead, Joni's 15-year-old son, Zac sets out to investigate the suspicious death. Though the local police are not pleased with Zac's efforts, he proves to be an intelligent and resourceful detective.

This is a made-for-television movie of exceptional quality, mixing unusual elements such as Joni's personal problems and Zac's sluething, and setting them amidst the breathtaking views of the rugged tablelands, sheer cliffs, and deep inaccessible valleys of the Blue Mountains. Plans to develop "Emerald Falls" into a 13-episode series were seriously considered, but never came to pass.
